At last! Good news for Sarasota’s economy

Today’s Business Weekly and last week’s Sarasota Herald Tribune finally reported on encouraging signs for our local economy.  It is heart warming to note that Ian Black Real Estate have been involved in helping the companies that were reported upon find suitable locations for their new ventures.  I can report that we were the brokers involved in leasing the 18,000 s.f. to Sunovia Energy Technologies, Inc., on behalf of our clients, BKOP1, LLC. We have been retained byLakewood Amedex to assist them with their property needs and this is an ongoing project.  We are also managing and leasing the excess space at IntregraClick’s new campus on Honore Avenue.  Our company has also been working with MyUS.com ,one of Manatee County’s 2009 Excellence in Industry Award winners. to secure new premises for their expanding operation. And we are hopeful that this will be more good news of new jobs in the near future.
A common thread to all these efforts have been the help and support we have received from the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County, who have and are continuing to be a valuable resource in our attempts to attract new jobs to our area.
There is no question that, in my opinion, there is a paradigm shift in the attitude of our bureaucracies towards bringing good business’s into the region. All of the companies mentioned are trendsetters in their fields and we are fortunate they have chosen to make their homes in Sarasota.  I am encouraged by these developments and pleased to report that our office is significantly busier than it was this time a year ago.  We still have our challenges and will deal with these as they come along.
I leave you with Matt Sauer’s, (Herald Tribune Business Editor) quote from today’s Business Monday,  “I am particularly happy to see the nature of this past week’s delivery of good tidings because it showed we are gaining some ground in doing something I have advocated since this column launched in November:  diversifying our economy.”
We are excited to be playing our part.
