JBCC Development has purchased a portion of the Kennel Club’s parking lot for $1.5 million
SARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 13, 2019) – JBCC Development has purchased 1.75 acres of land on the northwest corner of Bradenton Road and University Parkway in Sarasota for $1.5 million. The land is a portion of the parking lot for the Sarasota Kennel Club, which closed down its dog track in May of this year following the passing of Florida Amendment 13.
The amendment, which passed in November 2018, phases out commercial dog racing in connection with wagering in the state of Florida by 2020. The Kennel Club’s poker room, One Eyed Jacks, will continue to operate out of this location.
Nick DeVito II, SIOR, and Joanna Ginder of Ian Black Real Estate handled the transaction.
“The dog track property is more than 23 acres in total, and the owners recognized an opportunity to sell off a portion of the land for future development,” said DeVito, partner at Ian Black Real Estate. “The property sits on the corner of a lighted intersection and is in close proximity to the airport, which makes it a prime location for any number of businesses.”
JBCC Development is a Sarasota-based company focused on the development of retail centers and 55+ resort rental communities. The company developed the WaWa at the intersection of Clark Road and Honore Road, and the Wal-Mart on Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota. The company has not disclosed its plans for the land.
“We’re seeing a lot more infill developments in the area, as the state and our community continue to grow,” said DeVito. “The historically low interest rates have also made more development deals, like this one, possible.”
